The Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, has presented welfare cheques totalling N13,531,081.10 to families of police officers who died in the line of duty.

The presentation took place at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo on Friday as part of welfare assistance approved by the Inspector-General of Police for the next of kin of fallen officers.

Receiving the bereaved families in his office, Zungura expressed condolences over the loss of their loved ones and commended the deceased officers for their courage and sacrifices in the service of the nation.

The commissioner said the financial assistance was intended to help the families cope with some of the challenges arising from the loss of their breadwinners.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely to address their immediate needs.

“I urge you not to lose hope. The Nigeria Police Force remains a family that stands with its own, both in service and after service,” Zungura said.

He assured the families that the police would continue to support them, adding that the welfare of officers and their dependants remained a priority under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

According to him, the presentation was a practical demonstration of the police leadership’s commitment to the welfare of families of officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.

Zungura further assured the beneficiaries that the Osun Command would continue to provide assistance where necessary, stressing that families of fallen officers remained an integral part of the police family.

He prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved families as they continue to deal with the loss of their loved ones.
