The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has commended the Nigerian Army for providing a safe and secure environment that enables Corps Members and NYSC formations to operate effectively across the country.
General Nafiu gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, in Jos.
He noted that the success of the NYSC scheme is closely tied to the security situation in the country, stressing that the programme cannot thrive in an atmosphere of insecurity.

The NYSC Director General praised the Army for consistently fulfilling its responsibilities, revealing that the Scheme has never had to suspend or cancel an orientation course in any state under the jurisdiction of the 3 Division due to security concerns.
According to him, more than 7,000 Corps Members are currently serving in Plateau State, contributing significantly to socio-economic development through their various places of primary assignment.
General Nafiu highlighted the achievements of the NYSC since its establishment, noting that the scheme continues to promote national unity, integration and social cohesion through cultural exchange, inter-tribal marriages and youth empowerment initiatives.
He also pointed to the Scheme’s contributions to the health and education sectors through the deployment of Corps doctors, nurses and teachers to underserved communities across the country.
The Director General appealed for continued support from the Nigerian Army, stating that the NYSC is implementing reforms aimed at improving operational efficiency and service delivery.
In his response, the GOC 3 Division, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, commended General Nafiu for the initiatives and achievements recorded since assuming office as Director General of the NYSC.

He described the NYSC boss as a worthy ambassador of the Nigerian Army and praised the Plateau State Coordinator, NYSC staff and Corps Members for their dedication and commitment to national service.
Major General Oyinlola reaffirmed the commitment of the 3 Division Nigerian Army to ensuring the safety and security of Corps Members serving within its area of responsibility, assuring the Scheme of continued support.
He added that the positive impact of the NYSC remains evident across the country and encouraged the leadership of the Scheme to sustain its efforts in promoting national development and unity.
