The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged employers across Nigeria to make better use of corps members to drive national growth and productivity.
Speaking during an engagement with corps employers, the NYSC boss emphasised the need for organisations to create enabling environments that allow young graduates to utilise their skills and contribute meaningfully to development fully.
He noted that corps members possess diverse talents and academic backgrounds that can significantly benefit both public and private institutions if properly harnessed. According to him, employers play a critical role in shaping the impact of the scheme by providing mentorship, support, and opportunities for innovation.
Nafiu also encouraged employers to see corps members not merely as temporary staff but as valuable contributors capable of enhancing service delivery and organisational efficiency. He emphasised that strategic engagement with corps members could lead to broader economic benefits for the country.
The NYSC DG further highlighted the importance of collaboration between the scheme and employers, noting that such partnerships are essential to achieving sustainable national development goals.
The call comes amid ongoing concerns about underutilisation and, in some cases, rejection of corps members by assigned organisations, a trend the NYSC leadership is seeking to address through renewed stakeholder engagement.
The NYSC scheme, established to promote national unity and youth development, continues to position itself as a key driver of human capital development in Nigeria, with renewed emphasis on productivity and economic relevance.
