The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the death of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khan Salihu, who until his passing served as the Officer in Charge of Finance and Administration at the Lagos State Police Command.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, DCP Salihu died on Monday, June 15, 2026, after a brief illness.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described the death as a painful loss to the Force, noting that the late officer was widely respected for his professionalism, discipline and dedication to duty.
The IGP said DCP Salihu distinguished himself throughout his career through his administrative competence, loyalty and commitment, which contributed significantly to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Lagos State Police Command.

On behalf of officers and men of the Force, the police chief extended condolences to the deceased’s family, loved ones, colleagues and the leadership of the Lagos State Command.
He also prayed for the repose of the officer’s soul and for strength for those affected by the loss.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has dismissed reports circulating in some media outlets alleging that DCP Salihu was kidnapped before his death.
The Force described the reports as false, misleading and entirely fabricated, stressing that the deceased was never abducted at any point before his passing.
According to the statement, DCP Salihu had complained of feeling unwell and was immediately taken to a hospital for urgent medical attention, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to state categorically that DCP Khan Salihu was never kidnapped at any time before his demise,” the statement said.
The Force condemned what it described as reckless and unverified reporting, particularly at a time when the family, colleagues and the wider police community are mourning.
It called on the media organisation responsible for the report to withdraw the publication and issue a public correction and apology.

The police also urged members of the public to disregard the misinformation and rely only on information released through official channels.
DCP Salihu’s death has been described by the Force as a significant loss to the Nigeria Police, where he served with distinction over the course of his career.
