Senator Ali Ndume has commended President Bola Tinubu following the implementation of the recently approved salary increase for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District and previously chaired the Senate Committee on Army, said the implementation demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare and morale of military personnel.
The salary review, approved by President Tinubu in August, took effect on September 1 and provides increases ranging from 30 to 80 per cent depending on rank.

Under the new structure, personnel from Private to Staff Sergeant receive an 80 per cent increase, those from Warrant Officer to Colonel receive 50 per cent, while officers above the rank of Colonel receive a 30 per cent increase.
About 250,000 personnel across the Armed Forces are expected to benefit from the adjustment, which raises the annual military salary bill from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion.
The Defence Headquarters has confirmed that personnel have begun receiving their September salaries with the approved increases reflected in their payments.
Reacting to the implementation, Ndume said fulfilling the salary pledge was significant because announcing a policy was different from ensuring that personnel actually benefited from it.
He described the development as encouraging and said improved remuneration should strengthen the morale of troops serving across the country.
Ndume also urged military personnel to intensify efforts against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats following improvements in their welfare and the recruitment of additional personnel.

The senator further highlighted the development of Army Aviation, saying its operations could complement the Nigerian Air Force and strengthen military responses to security challenges.
He renewed his call for stronger coordination between the Army, Air Force and other components of the Armed Forces in ongoing security operations.
Ndume said improved welfare should be accompanied by adequate equipment, logistics and operational support to enable military personnel to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
