President Bola Tinubu has charged newly commissioned military officers to uphold the Constitution, protect Nigerians and remain committed to discipline, honour and selfless service.
Tinubu, who is Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, gave the charge on Saturday through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, who represented him at the Combined Passing Out Parade of the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna.
The ceremony marked the commissioning of cadets from the 73 Regular Course, Short Service Course 49 of the Nigerian Army, Direct Short Service Course 34 of the Nigerian Air Force and Branch Commission Course 3 of the Air Force.
Addressing the newly commissioned officers, Tinubu said their years of training had prepared them for the responsibilities associated with military service.
“The nation is counting on you,” the President said, urging them to demonstrate discipline, professionalism, courage and integrity in carrying out their duties.
Tinubu reminded the officers of their constitutional responsibilities, stressing that they must safeguard the country and protect its citizens while maintaining the professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces.
He also commended the Nigerian Defence Academy for adapting its training programmes to the changing nature of modern security challenges.
The President highlighted the Academy’s focus on counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency training, technological innovation and international partnerships.
He urged the institution to sustain its pursuit of excellence and continue producing officers equipped to respond to emerging security challenges.
The ceremony was attended by senior government and military officials, including the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, alongside other Service Chiefs and defence officials.
Tinubu urged the newly commissioned officers to regard their commissioning as the beginning of greater responsibility to the country rather than merely the completion of their military training.
He called on them to uphold the traditions of the Nigerian Armed Forces and discharge their responsibilities with courage, integrity and dedication to national service.
