Players of Lobi Stars Football Club have completed mandatory medical examinations ahead of the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, as the Makurdi-based side intensifies preparations for the new campaign.

The screening exercise was conducted on Wednesday at CardioPoint Medicals, located along Modern Market Road in Makurdi, Benue State.

The exercise formed part of the club’s efforts to comply with NNL licensing requirements concerning players’ health, fitness and general well-being before the commencement of competitive football.

The club’s nurse, Christopher Ayom, led the delegation and supervised the medical assessments to ensure that the necessary examinations were conducted and properly documented.

Players underwent electrocardiogram (ECG) tests and other routine medical examinations designed to assess their cardiovascular health and identify potential medical conditions that could affect their participation in competitive matches.

Ayom described the exercise as successful and commended the club’s management for facilitating the process.

He said the screening would support the medical certification of players in accordance with the league’s requirements.

The Chief Executive Officer of CardioPoint Medicals, Dr Vincent Shidali, also emphasised the importance of regular medical examinations in professional sports.

Shidali noted that athletes’ performance depends significantly on their health, adding that routine medical assessments can help identify potential risks and reduce avoidable medical emergencies.

The exercise comes as Lobi Stars prepare to compete in Conference D of the NNL, alongside clubs including Wikki Tourists, Yobe Desert Stars, Sokoto United and Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club (ABS FC).

Lobi Stars are expected to begin their league campaign against ABS FC, as the club seeks a strong start to the season.

The 2026/2027 NNL season is scheduled to commence on Saturday, October 31, with an opening fixture between Heartland FC and Crown FC.

Other clubs are expected to begin their Matchday One fixtures during the weekend of November 7.

The completion of the medical screening marks another stage in Lobi Stars’ preparations as the club works towards meeting league requirements and ensuring that its players are ready for the challenges of the new season.
