The Lagos State Government has announced plans to temporarily redirect traffic along Baale Animashaun Road in Ifako-Ijaiye to facilitate the construction of a new culvert as part of ongoing efforts to improve drainage infrastructure and stormwater management in the area.
According to the government, the traffic diversion will begin on June 15, 2026, and remain in effect for approximately eight weeks while construction work is carried out.
The project is designed to improve stormwater discharge from Adfarm Estate, Adson Street, and surrounding communities through a newly developed drainage outlet that crosses Baale Animashaun Road.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the temporary closure of the affected section of the road is necessary to ensure the safe and efficient execution of the project.

He noted that motorists travelling towards Baale Animashaun Road from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway will be required to use alternative routes throughout the construction period.
Under the traffic management arrangement, commuters can access the corridor through Ijaiye Bus Stop Junction, proceeding via Agbado-Ijaiye Road, popularly known as Post Office Road, before connecting to Alakuko Road and rejoining Baale Animashaun Road.
Another alternative route will allow motorists to travel through Jendor Junction near Alakuko Junction and continue along Alhaji Ganiyu Road before reconnecting with the affected roadway.
Road users may also utilise the Ajegunle-Ilo Bus Stop Junction route, linking through Adetiba Street, Fagbeyiro Abayomi Street and Fola Azeez Street to access the area.
Osiyemi emphasised that vehicular access from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway directly into Baale Animashaun Road will be completely restricted during the construction period.

He appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic management personnel and comply with all road signs and diversion directives to minimise disruptions and ensure smooth traffic flow.
The state government stated that the drainage intervention forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen flood control measures, improve environmental resilience and enhance public safety across Lagos.
