The Federal Government of Nigeria has opened discussions with Africa50 on potential investment in Nigeria’s gas infrastructure as part of efforts to attract private capital and expand the country’s energy sector.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo, made the call during a meeting with Africa50 Chief Executive Officer, Alain Ebobissé, on the sidelines of the 2026 Infra for Africa Forum in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Ekpo said Nigeria’s abundant gas reserves and the Federal Government’s focus on gas development under the Decade of Gas Initiative present significant opportunities for investors.

He disclosed that the country’s proven gas reserves had risen from about 210 trillion cubic feet to approximately 250 trillion cubic feet, while noting that about 20 strategic projects requiring investment had been identified.
The Africa50 CEO said the organisation was exploring opportunities in Nigeria’s midstream gas sector, including the acquisition of existing assets and development of new infrastructure.
Following the meeting, the Minister directed the establishment of a Technical Committee comprising representatives of government, Africa50, NMDPRA and other stakeholders to advance the proposed partnership.
