Iran has issued a stark warning to the United States, stating that its military will target US forces if they approach or enter the Strait of Hormuz, amid rising tensions triggered by a newly announced American naval operation in the Gulf.

The announcement follows US President Donald Trump’s declaration of a maritime mission dubbed Project Freedom, aimed at guiding stranded commercial vessels through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The operation is expected to commence within hours, according to US officials.

In a statement, Iran’s military said it would treat any approach or incursion by US naval assets as a hostile act, signalling the potential for confrontation in one of the world’s most sensitive shipping corridors.

At the diplomatic level, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said it is currently reviewing Washington’s response to its latest 14-point proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. President Trump, however, has already dismissed the proposal as “unacceptable,” deepening the diplomatic standoff.

The escalation comes as wider regional violence continues to intensify. Israel has maintained air and ground operations in neighbouring territories, including continued strikes in Lebanon that reportedly wounded five medical personnel. Israeli forces have also expanded their operational control in Gaza, announcing the establishment of what it calls an “Orange Line,” further reshaping movement and territorial control in the enclave.

The broader conflict, which has drawn in multiple regional actors, continues to raise fears of a wider war across the Middle East, with maritime security in the Gulf now emerging as a central flashpoint.

For now, the situation remains fluid, with diplomatic channels strained and military posturing increasing on multiple fronts as global powers watch closely for the next development.
