Security operatives at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, have repelled another attack by suspected gunmen, killing one of the assailants during a gun battle.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Wednesday when the attackers reportedly attempted to breach the institute’s security perimeter.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Head of Public Affairs at NIPSS, Dr Osime Samuel, said the armed men engaged security personnel in a fierce exchange of gunfire but were forced to retreat following a swift and coordinated response.

According to the institute, one of the suspected attackers was neutralised during the confrontation, while several others escaped with varying degrees of injuries.

The statement stressed that the gunmen failed to gain access to the premises and that all participants of the Senior Executive Course, members of staff, residents and facilities remained unharmed.

NIPSS said security agencies have launched efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, while surveillance and other proactive security measures have been strengthened within and around the institution.

The institute reassured participants, staff, their families and the general public that the safety of lives and property remains its top priority.

It also commended the professionalism and prompt intervention of security personnel, urging members of the public to disregard unverified reports capable of causing unnecessary panic.
