Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has celebrated National Youth Service Corps member, Mary Etim, whose appreciation video thanking the state government for its corps members’ allowance has gone viral on social media.

Mary Etim, an Akwa Ibom indigene serving in Abuja, attracted the Governor’s attention after expressing gratitude for receiving the state’s recently approved ₦80,000 monthly allowance, including outstanding arrears.

Speaking when he received the corps member at Government House, Uyo, Governor Eno said he was impressed by her sincerity and gratitude, describing her reaction as a lesson in appreciation.

The Governor said Mary’s excitement over receiving the allowance reflected genuine gratitude, adding that it was encouraging to see beneficiaries acknowledge government’s efforts.

Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting young people, explaining that the allowance is paid to Akwa Ibom indigenes serving across the country, as well as non-indigenes posted to Akwa Ibom State.

According to him, the initiative complements the Federal Government’s support and helps corps members meet transportation and other essential expenses during their service year.

The Governor assured that his administration would continue to invest in programmes that improve the welfare and future of young people.

Responding, Mary Etim thanked Governor Eno for fulfilling his promise to corps members, describing him as a leader committed to the welfare of youths.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youth Development commended the Governor for ensuring that all eligible corps members, including those whose names were initially omitted, received the allowance.

He said the intervention had eased the financial burden on corps members and demonstrated the government’s commitment to youth development in Akwa Ibom State.
