Tyson Fury has expressed anger over a dispute surrounding his proposed heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua, raising fresh uncertainty over the long-awaited “Battle of Britain.”
The all-British heavyweight contest was announced earlier this week for December 11 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, with Netflix expected to broadcast the fight.
However, disagreements involving Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, and UFC president Dana White have emerged over promotional arrangements for the bout.
Hearn has objected to White’s involvement, arguing that it conflicts with existing contractual arrangements surrounding Joshua.
Fury subsequently accused Hearn and Joshua of attempting to withdraw from the contest.
“Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn are trying to pull out of this fight,” Fury said in a strongly worded Instagram post.
The former heavyweight champion also blamed Hearn for the latest complications, claiming the dispute could jeopardise what he described as the biggest fight in boxing history.
Hearn, meanwhile, has maintained that White cannot be involved in promoting the contest.
“Dana White cannot be involved with this fight promotion. Netflix clearly didn’t get the memo. No one talks to each other,” Hearn said during an interview with IFL TV.
Hearn and White have been engaged in a public disagreement since the launch of Zuffa Boxing earlier this year.
The proposed Fury-Joshua showdown has been discussed for more than a decade, with previous efforts to stage the fight collapsing amid negotiations, contractual issues and changes in both fighters’ careers.
Its announcement had appeared to bring an end to years of uncertainty surrounding one of British boxing’s most anticipated matchups.
Fury, 38, has recorded 36 victories in 39 professional fights and previously held major heavyweight world titles.
Joshua, 36, is a former two-time heavyweight world champion with 30 professional victories.
Both fighters have suffered defeats to Oleksandr Usyk during their careers, with Joshua losing twice to the Ukrainian in 2021 and 2022 and Fury suffering two defeats against him in 2024.
With the December 11 date already announced, the latest promotional dispute has introduced fresh uncertainty over whether Fury and Joshua will finally meet in the ring as scheduled.
