Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged traditional rulers to preserve the cultural heritage of their people while promoting peace, unity and development in their communities.
Fubara made the call during the coronation of the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, His Majesty King Charles Douglas Mac-Pepple Jaja, Jeki VI, in Opobo Town, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Represented by his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, the governor described traditional institutions as important partners in preserving cultural values, strengthening unity and maintaining peace within communities.
Fubara congratulated King Jaja VI on his coronation and prayed for wisdom and a reign characterised by peace, unity and progress.
He urged the monarch to provide purposeful leadership and work towards the continued development and wellbeing of the people of Opobo Kingdom.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, in a goodwill message, also highlighted the historical significance of Opobo Kingdom and the enduring role of its traditional institution.
Jonathan described the new monarch as a respected traditional ruler and expressed confidence that his reign would contribute to the peace, unity and development of the kingdom.
The coronation marked the formal beginning of King Jaja VI’s reign as Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom.
