The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to quality education and human capital development in Rivers State.

Fubara made the declaration yesterday during the 44th Convocation Ceremony of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education held at the institution’s Rumuolumeni campus in Port Harcourt over the weekend.

Represented by his deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, Fubara described the convocation ceremony as a significant milestone in the life of the institution, noting that such events go beyond the conferment of degrees and academic awards.

According to him, convocation ceremonies serve as moments for reflection, celebration, and renewed commitment to the ideals of learning, leadership, service, and national development.

The governor stressed that education remains the foundation for sustainable development and societal transformation, adding that his administration would continue to prioritise policies and programmes aimed at improving access to quality education across the state.

He said the government remained committed to infrastructure development, research, innovation, and the welfare of both staff and students in state-owned educational institutions.

Also speaking at the event, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Okechukwu Onuchuku, commended the Rivers State Government for its sustained support to the institution, particularly in the areas of staff recruitment, infrastructure development, and accreditation exercises.

Onuchuku disclosed that a total of 3,510 students graduated with first degrees, while 1,815 others received postgraduate degrees during the convocation ceremony.

The event attracted academic officials, government representatives, parents, and other stakeholders in the education sector.
