The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to airlift 271 Nigerians from South Africa as part of its ongoing voluntary evacuation of citizens affected by renewed anti-immigration tensions and xenophobic unrest.

The evacuation flight, to be operated by Air Peace, is scheduled to depart Nigeria on Monday, pick up the evacuees in South Africa and arrive in Lagos on Tuesday morning.

The latest operation follows previous evacuation exercises that have already returned hundreds of Nigerians to the country, with over 1,000 citizens initially registering for government assistance.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the evacuation underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians abroad and providing timely consular support during periods of crisis.

The ministry reaffirmed its resolve to continue assisting affected citizens while monitoring the situation in South Africa to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians living in the country.
