Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have secured a 1-0 victory over Poland in a friendly match as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
Mary Mamudu scored the only goal of the encounter in first-half stoppage time at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, Poland, to hand coach Moses Aduku’s team a valuable win ahead of the global tournament.
The victory gives the Falconets a confidence boost as they continue preparations for their opening World Cup fixture against Spain on September 7.
The Nigerian side delivered a disciplined performance against the host nation, keeping Poland under control before Mamudu found the breakthrough just before the interval.
Her goal proved decisive as the Falconets held on to secure victory in their penultimate warm-up match before the competition begins.
Nigeria will play one more friendly match against the Republic of Korea on Tuesday, September 1, at the Remes Sports Leisure and Spa Stadium before shifting full attention to the World Cup.
The Falconets have been drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia.
They will begin their campaign against Spain on September 7, face China on September 10, and conclude the group stage against New Caledonia on September 13.
Nigeria, two-time runners-up at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, are aiming for another strong performance at the tournament after years of impressive displays on the global stage.
