Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has publicly expressed support for Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the 2027 governorship election, recalling their friendship dating back nearly five decades.
Otedola disclosed that he and Hamzat shared a bunk bed while attending boarding school 49 years ago, describing the governorship candidate as a man of integrity whose character he has known for decades.
The businessman made the remarks following a private dinner he hosted in honour of Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate seeking to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

In a post on X, Otedola referred to Hamzat as the incoming governor of Lagos State, expressing confidence in his leadership qualities and suitability for the position.
He praised the deputy governor’s honesty, sincerity, fairness and moral principles, suggesting that their longstanding personal relationship had strengthened his confidence in Hamzat’s ability to govern.
The gathering attracted prominent Nigerian business leaders, including President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, and BUA Group Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu.
Rabiu separately confirmed his attendance through a social media post, describing the dinner as an opportunity for friendship and meaningful discussions.
He also extended his best wishes to Hamzat as the deputy governor prepares for the 2027 governorship contest.
Hamzat secured the APC governorship ticket on May 21, 2026, after winning the party’s primary election with 657,917 votes.
His only remaining challenger, Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, received one vote, according to results announced by the party’s electoral committee.

The deputy governor has served alongside Sanwo-Olu since 2019 and is seeking to succeed him when his second four-year term ends in 2027.
Hamzat has outlined a development agenda focusing on infrastructure, employment, education, healthcare and security, promising to build on the achievements of the current administration.
Otedola’s endorsement adds to the public expressions of support surrounding Hamzat’s candidacy, although the outcome of the governorship election will ultimately be determined by Lagos voters.
The 2027 contest is expected to attract considerable political attention as parties compete for leadership of Nigeria’s commercial capital.
