The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to promote anti-corruption education and youth development across Nigeria.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, committed during the 53rd anniversary celebration of the NYSC held in Lagos on Friday.

Represented by Assistant Commander of the EFCC, Babatunde Sulaiman, Olukoyede described the NYSC as one of Nigeria’s most enduring nation-building institutions, credited with promoting unity, discipline and patriotism among young graduates.

“For over five decades, the scheme has continued to bridge ethnic, cultural and religious divides while nurturing generations of youths committed to national development,” he said.

The EFCC boss stressed that the fight against corruption, cybercrime and other financial crimes requires collective national responsibility, particularly from young Nigerians.

“The fight against corruption, economic sabotage, cybercrime and other financial crimes cannot be left to the EFCC alone. It requires the collective commitment of patriotic citizens, especially young people,” Olukoyede stated.

He noted that the partnership between the EFCC and NYSC reflects a shared commitment to building a society anchored on integrity, accountability and responsible citizenship.

According to him, anti-corruption advocacy programmes involving corps members have helped position them as agents of ethical values and national unity.

Olukoyede urged corps members to uphold honesty, discipline and patriotism while rejecting all forms of fraud and criminality, including internet-related offences.

“True success is built on integrity, not shortcuts,” he warned.

Earlier, the Lagos State Coordinator of the NYSC, Christiana Salmwang, said the scheme was established in 1973 to foster national unity after the civil war and has since contributed significantly to nation-building.

“Today, we celebrate 53 years of courage, service and nation-building by over five million young Nigerians who answered the clarion call,” she said.

Salmwang added that corps members have served in classrooms, election duties and emergency situations across the country, helping to strengthen national cohesion.

“The khaki is not just a uniform; it is a promise that no part of Nigeria is too far and no Nigerian too different to serve,” she stated.
