The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has again declared former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
The anti-graft agency announced the development in a public notice issued on Wednesday, accompanied by a photograph of the former pension task force chairman.
According to the EFCC, Maina, 61, from Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, is wanted in connection with an alleged offence involving the receipt of stolen property.
“The public is hereby notified that ABDULRASHEED ABDULLAHI MAINA, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of receiving stolen property,” the commission stated.
The EFCC appealed to members of the public with information about Maina’s whereabouts to contact any of its offices or report to the nearest police station or other security agency.
The commission, however, did not provide details of the property allegedly involved or explain whether the latest declaration is connected to Maina’s previous pension-related prosecution.
Maina had previously been declared wanted by the EFCC in November 2015 over allegations arising from investigations into the management of pension funds.
He subsequently faced prosecution before the Federal High Court in Abuja over money laundering-related charges.
Maina was convicted and sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment, with the court also ordering the forfeiture of assets connected to the case. He subsequently challenged the conviction on appeal.
The latest EFCC notice marks another development in the former pension task force chairman’s long-running legal encounters with the anti-graft agency.
