A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of Nollywood actress Doris Ogala following her arraignment on allegations of cyberbullying, cyberstalking and attempted extortion involving Lagos-based cleric, Pastor Chris Okafor.

Justice Akintayo Aluko issued the order on Wednesday, October 28, pending the hearing of the actress’s bail application scheduled for October 30.

Ogala pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against her by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.

The prosecution alleged that the actress published private and intimate photographs of Okafor without his consent and circulated electronic messages intended to embarrass, intimidate or damage his reputation.

Prosecuting counsel, Tolulope Mokolu, also alleged that Ogala threatened to release further damaging materials unless the cleric provided financial compensation or purchased a house for her.

The alleged offences reportedly occurred between September 2024 and March 2026 and were brought under provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.

Following her plea, Mokolu requested that the court remand the defendant while the prosecution reviewed her bail application.

He explained that the application had only been served on him that day and that additional time was required to prepare a response.

However, defence counsel N. C. Atulomah opposed the request, urging the court to exercise its discretion and grant Ogala bail.

Atulomah told the court that his client was a governorship candidate in Abia State and assured the judge that she would attend subsequent proceedings if released.

In his ruling, Justice Aluko held that the defence had not presented sufficient grounds to justify her immediate release.

The judge consequently ordered her remand and directed an accelerated hearing of the bail application.

Reports differed on whether the actress was remanded at the Ikoyi or Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

The proceedings also reportedly became tense when Ogala insisted on addressing the court despite attempts by her lawyer to calm her.

Following the hearing, the actress accused several prominent individuals, including Okafor and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, of influencing her remand.

She also named clerics Jerry Eze and Johnson Suleman in allegations posted on social media.

However, no independently verified evidence has been presented establishing that those individuals improperly influenced the court’s decision.

The allegations remain Ogala’s personal claims and have not been established as facts.

The case is expected to resume on October 30 for consideration of her bail application.

Ogala remains presumed innocent of the charges unless and until a court determines otherwise.
