The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has called on Nigeria’s banking sector to intensify efforts in blocking financial flows linked to terrorism, kidnapping and other security threats across the country.
Shaibu appealed on Monday in Abuja when he received the Group Managing Director of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Oliver Alawuba, at Army Headquarters.

He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies and financial institutions to improve monitoring systems and disrupt funding channels used by criminal networks.
Beyond security concerns, the Army Chief also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve troop welfare, revealing a partnership with UBA to expand housing schemes for serving and retired personnel.
He said the initiative would support mortgage access and complement ongoing infrastructure upgrades in military barracks nationwide.

In response, UBA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army through housing finance, welfare packages, and improved financial services for personnel, including those on peacekeeping missions abroad.
