The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has cautioned members of the public against the spread of false information regarding its ongoing recruitment exercise, warning that individuals responsible for disseminating misleading content will face prosecution.

In a public notice issued by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Okeh Juliet, on Saturday, the Board said its attention had been drawn to false and misleading information being circulated across various channels, particularly on social media platforms, concerning the recruitment process.

The Board urged the public to exercise caution and verify information before sharing it, noting that misinformation surrounding the recruitment exercise could mislead applicants and undermine the aspirations of genuine candidates.

According to the statement, the Board is taking necessary steps to identify and prosecute individuals or groups responsible for creating and spreading false information. It stressed that the dissemination of unauthorised and misleading information constitutes a criminal offence and would attract sanctions in line with extant laws.

CDCFIB further described the notice as a final warning to social media users and account holders involved in spreading falsehoods about the recruitment exercise, adding that it is working closely with relevant security and law enforcement agencies to monitor and address cases of misinformation.

The Board advised applicants and other stakeholders to rely solely on its official recruitment portal and verified communication channels for authentic updates concerning the exercise.

It also appealed to members of the public to report suspicious content and refrain from sharing unverified information capable of causing confusion.
