The Benue State Police Command has recovered a newborn baby allegedly taken from his mother at a healthcare facility in Gboko Local Government Area of the state.
The baby was recovered in the early hours of Thursday, while some suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Peter Aondona, confirmed the development to journalists, saying the matter was initially reported at the A Division Police Station, Gboko, before being transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

According to the police spokesman, the baby was recovered around midnight on Wednesday and is currently in police custody at the division.
He said the identities and exact number of suspects arrested would be disclosed later as investigations progress.
The newborn was reportedly delivered on Tuesday, August 11, at a healthcare facility in Gboko. Reports indicate that a woman who allegedly posed as a nurse approached the mother and requested to examine the baby.

The mother, believing she was a hospital staff member, reportedly handed the newborn to her. The woman allegedly took the baby towards the labour room but disappeared with the child.
The development reportedly confused the facility and prompted security intervention.
The police have continued investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction, while the recovered baby has since been reunited with his mother.
