BENUE MOURNS HEAD OF SERVICE, AGBOGBO ODE

The Benue State Government has announced the death of its Head of Service, Dr Agbogbo Ode, who passed away in the early hours of Saturday, May 2, 2026, following a brief illness.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued in Makurdi by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs Deborah Aber.

According to the statement, the government expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of the top civil servant, describing it as a significant loss to the state.

“It is with deep sadness and regret that the Benue State Government announces the death of Dr Agbogbo Ode, the Head of Service of Benue State,” the statement read. “His sudden demise took place on Saturday, 2nd May, 2026, after a brief illness.”

The government noted that Dr Ode was a central figure in the state’s public service, whose leadership, professionalism, and commitment to duty greatly strengthened the civil service structure.

“His credible and dependable authority in matters of public service, as well as his hard work, brilliance, and immense contributions to the State Civil Service, will forever be missed,” the statement added.

Describing him as “an impeccable technocrat and a highly respected authority in public service,” the SSG extended condolences on behalf of the state government to his family, colleagues, and the entire civil service workforce.

She prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and comfort for all those affected by his passing.

Dr Ode’s death has been described within government circles as a major blow to the administrative backbone of Benue State, where he was widely respected for his diligence and reforms in public service delivery.
