Two people have been killed, one injured, and 26 others abducted in separate attacks by suspected bandits in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KadVS) confirmed the incidents in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Yunusa Shehu.
According to Shehu, the attacks occurred in Tunburku, Tudun Amada and Kallon Kura communities, with the assailants also making away with cattle belonging to residents.
He said the attackers invaded Tunburku in Kidandan District and Tudun Amada in Kadage District almost simultaneously in the early hours of Monday.
Two residents of Tunburku, identified as Alhaji Surajo and Alhaji Ado, were killed, while 26 people were reportedly abducted in Tudun Amada.
Shehu added that another resident, Ayyuba Usman, sustained injuries during the attack, which occurred at about 12:30 a.m.
In a separate incident, the bandits reportedly invaded Kura in Danmahawayi District at about 9 p.m. on Saturday and rustled cattle belonging to residents.
Shehu said initial reports put the number of stolen cattle at between 15 and 17, although efforts were still ongoing to determine the exact number.
He added that the attackers later invaded Kallon Kura, also in Danmahawayi District, where they rustled more cattle before security personnel mobilised to the area.
Following intelligence about the movement of the bandits and the stolen animals, KadVS personnel launched a pursuit aimed at recovering the cattle.
The vigilantes eventually engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the cattle and flee.
A security source who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said 19 cattle were recovered from the bandits at about midnight on Saturday, September 5.
The recovery operation was supervised by the KadVS Sector Coordinator in Giwa Local Government Area, who led the personnel involved.
When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansur Hassan, said he would respond after obtaining further details about the incidents.
However, he had not provided further clarification as of the time of filing the report.
