Azerbaijan has strongly rejected allegations that Israel used its territory to conduct military and intelligence operations against Iran, describing a recent CNN report on the matter as baseless and inaccurate.
In a statement issued by the country’s Foreign Ministry, the government dismissed the claims as “completely unfounded,” insisting that Azerbaijan has never allowed its territory to be used for hostile actions against neighbouring states.
The ministry stated that it had already communicated its official position to CNN before the publication of the report, but accused the news outlet of relying on anonymous sources while ignoring Baku’s response.

According to the statement, the report failed to uphold the principles of objectivity, impartiality, and professional journalistic ethics.
“Azerbaijan has never permitted and will never permit such activities on its territory,” the ministry said, reaffirming the country’s commitment to regional peace, stability, and good-neighbourly relations.
The government also called on CNN to retract the report.
The controversy stems from a CNN article alleging that Israel deployed dozens of elite military personnel and Mossad operatives to southern Azerbaijan near the Iranian border during the recent conflict with Iran.
The report claimed that the operatives were involved in intelligence-gathering missions and drone-related operations. It further alleged that one such operation launched from Azerbaijani territory was linked to the March 4 assassination of a senior intelligence commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Azerbaijan has categorically denied the allegations, maintaining that its territory has not been used as a base for military or intelligence actions against Iran. The dispute adds to ongoing regional tensions amid heightened scrutiny of security and diplomatic relations in the South Caucasus and the Middle East.
