The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned 49 infrastructure and welfare projects across Nigerian Army formations and units nationwide as part of efforts to improve personnel accommodation, strengthen operational readiness and enhance administrative efficiency.
The projects, inaugurated on Thursday, October 29, 2026, comprise 11 facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and 38 others across military formations and units in different parts of the country.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army Chief personally commissioned a newly constructed Officers Transit Accommodation at Life Camp, Abuja.

Speaking during the ceremony, Shaibu said the projects reflected the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving the living and working conditions of military personnel and their families.
He explained that the initiative aligned with his command philosophy, particularly the principles of Sound Administration and the Soldier First Concept, which prioritise personnel welfare as an essential component of military effectiveness.
The Army Chief emphasised that adequate accommodation and functional infrastructure contribute significantly to personnel morale, productivity, discipline and combat readiness.
He urged officers who would occupy the newly commissioned transit accommodation to maintain the facility responsibly and uphold professional standards.
Shaibu also reaffirmed his commitment to continued investment in infrastructure development across Army formations, while appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support towards improving military welfare.
Earlier, the Chief of Logistics (Army), Major General Adekunle Adeyinka, explained that the transit facility was designed to address temporary accommodation challenges faced by officers posted to Army Headquarters and other formations in Abuja.
He disclosed that the building contains furnished, self-contained apartments equipped with modern amenities for officers awaiting permanent accommodation.
Following the commissioning, Shaibu inspected ongoing infrastructure projects within Life Camp, including additional residential blocks, road rehabilitation and drainage works.

He expressed satisfaction with the reported progress and directed contractors to maintain construction standards while complying with approved timelines and specifications.
The Army said the nationwide infrastructure initiative was intended to address accommodation shortages and provide a more conducive environment for effective administration, training and military operations.
It maintained that sustained investment in personnel welfare remained central to building a professional, resilient and operationally effective force capable of responding to Nigeria’s security challenges.
