The trial of the Chief Executive Officer of Onome Global Market Resources Limited, Osabohein Alex Ologbose, and his wife, Hope Onome Oghelemu, continued on Wednesday before the Federal High Court in Abuja, with a prosecution witness narrating how he allegedly lost over N28 million in an investment scheme.
The defendants, alongside their companies, Onome Global Market Resources Limited and Lexicon Multi-concept Media Limited, are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a seven-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence, conversion of funds, and money laundering involving N740 million.
Testifying before Justice Ekerete Akpan, the second prosecution witness, Modestus Uchenna Okafor, an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), told the court that he was introduced to the investment by Alice Ayeni, whom he met at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM Bank).

According to the witness, Ayeni convinced him that Onome Global Market Resources Limited was involved in the export of bitter kola and other agricultural products to Hong Kong, China and Indonesia, and assured him of attractive returns on investment.
He told the court that he initially invested N620,000 before making additional payments amounting to N28.08 million into bank accounts provided by Ayeni for the purported export transactions.
Okafor further testified that after several failed promises of returns, he and other investors confronted the defendants, who allegedly assured them that payments would be made.
However, investigations by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Ports Authority reportedly revealed that there were no receiving companies abroad and no record of the claimed shipments.

The witness said he subsequently petitioned the EFCC along with other victims, adding that he had neither recovered his investment nor received any returns.
Justice Ekerete Akpan adjourned the matter until September 24, 2026, for continuation of the trial.
