AKWA IBOM GOVT INTENSIFIES WORKPLACE SAFETY AUDIT

Akwa Ibom State Government has intensified workplace safety audits across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as part of efforts to improve staff welfare, health and productivity in the state civil service.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Inibehe Silas Etukudo, disclosed this while receiving a safety audit team led by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Safety and Environment, Mrs Jayne Ufot, during an inspection visit to the ministry.

Etukudo commended the team for conducting what she described as a comprehensive assessment of the ministry’s work environment and staff welfare facilities, noting that the exercise was timely and beneficial to workers across the state.

She praised Ufot for personally leading the inspection, saying the move reflected the commitment of the Governor Umo Eno administration to promoting safe and healthy workplaces in all MDAs.

According to the commissioner, the establishment of the Health, Safety and Environment Department demonstrates the state government’s resolve to strengthen occupational safety standards and improve workers’ wellbeing within the public service.

She expressed confidence that recommendations from the audit exercise would support ongoing efforts to create more conducive and productive work environments across the state secretariat.

Etukudo also assured the team of the ministry’s readiness to implement safety recommendations within its capacity, including improved workplace support facilities.

Speaking earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Safety and Environment, Mrs Jayne Ufot, said the inspection was aimed at evaluating workplace safety standards and identifying measures to enhance staff wellbeing and productivity.

She noted that the exercise forms part of the state government’s broader commitment to ensuring safer and more efficient working environments for civil servants.

Also speaking is the Safety Consultant to the State Government, Engr. Peter Asuquo, commended the ministry’s management for its cooperation during the inspection.

He disclosed that a comprehensive report on the safety assessment of all MDAs would be submitted to the government at the conclusion of the exercise.
