Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Capt. Iniobong Ekong (Rtd.), has advised business owners to formally register their businesses and products with relevant government agencies to improve visibility, credibility and access to investment opportunities.

The commissioner advised during a panel discussion at the Nationwide Sub-national Engagement and Technical Reform Workshop 2026 on Business Enabling Reforms and Investment Competitiveness, held at the Ibom-LED Complex, IBB Avenue, Uyo.

Represented by the Deputy Director of Commerce and SABER Desk Officer, Mr Asian Umoren, Ekong said business registration remains a critical requirement for sustainable growth, market expansion and increased investor confidence.

He noted that properly registered businesses are better positioned to benefit from government interventions, private-sector partnerships and other investment opportunities.

The commissioner also encouraged entrepreneurs to adopt strategic partnerships rather than relying solely on sole proprietorship structures for raising capital and expanding operations.

According to him, partnerships can enhance operational efficiency, improve access to finance, facilitate knowledge sharing and widen market reach, ultimately strengthening business sustainability and competitiveness.

Ekong further highlighted the importance of the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) as a platform established to address business-related complaints and improve engagement between the public and private sectors.

He said the mechanism has helped resolve numerous business concerns, leading to faster responses and improved service delivery.

The commissioner added that the GRM aligns with the objectives of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) reforms aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and efficiency in public service delivery.

The workshop brought together government officials, private sector operators, development partners and reform advocates to discuss strategies for enhancing investment competitiveness and improving the ease of doing business at the sub-national level.

Participants at the event commended the Akwa Ibom State Government for implementing business-friendly policies designed to attract investment, support enterprise development and stimulate economic growth.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining reform initiatives, strengthening collaboration and creating an enabling environment for businesses and investors across the state.
