The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has announced plans to resume plenary sessions at its Assembly Complex along Udo Udoma Avenue on or before next Tuesday.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, issued the directive on Tuesday, instructing the Chairman of the House Committee on House Services, Hon. Lawrence Udoide, to ensure that the Assembly Chamber is put in proper condition ahead of the resumption of legislative activities.

The decision followed an altercation between members of the Assembly and security operatives at the Government House gate, which disrupted legislative proceedings and prevented lawmakers from accessing their temporary sitting venue at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Speaking to journalists after the incident, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Jerry Otu, said the Speaker had directed the House Services Committee to expedite work on the Assembly Chamber to facilitate the immediate return of lawmakers to the Assembly Complex.

Otu expressed concern over the conduct of security personnel stationed at the Government House gate, alleging that they denied lawmakers access to the temporary chamber where plenary was scheduled to take place.

According to him, the development made it necessary for the House to fast-track preparations for the resumption of plenary sessions at the Assembly Complex on Udo Udoma Avenue.

Members of the Assembly, including the Speaker, were reportedly prevented from entering the venue designated for the day’s sitting, leading lawmakers to suspend further legislative activities at the temporary location.

The House has scheduled its next plenary session for Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the Assembly Complex.
