The Former First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, has visited former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, in Abuja.

Atiku disclosed the meeting in a post on his social media accounts on Wednesday, describing the visit by the widow of former President Muhammadu Buhari as warm and significant.

Neither Atiku nor Aisha publicly disclosed the purpose of the meeting or the issues discussed during the visit.

The meeting comes amid increased political activities and consultations ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

Atiku said the encounter underscored the responsibilities of those seeking political leadership, particularly the need to focus on the welfare and dignity of Nigerians.

“Today, I was delighted to receive former First Lady, Aisha Buhari. Her visit was warm and deeply appreciated,” he said.

The former vice-president also used the occasion to highlight the economic pressures confronting households across the country, citing the rising cost of food, transportation, education, healthcare and other necessities.

He said Nigeria needed an economy that would provide opportunities for citizens and ensure that hard work translated into improved living standards.

“Nigerians deserve an economy that rewards hard work, restores opportunity and allows every family to live with dignity and hope,” Atiku said.

He added that his focus was on reducing the economic burden on households, restoring confidence and making essential goods and services more affordable.

Aisha Buhari was accompanied by one of her daughters and some associates during the visit.
