Air Peace has attributed delays and cancellations affecting some of its flights at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to a shortage of Jet A1 aviation fuel and unfavourable weather conditions.
The airline issued the clarification following reports and videos circulating online showing passengers expressing concerns over the disruptions.
In a statement, Air Peace said the initial delays to its Abuja operations resulted from the unavailability of Jet A1, which it said also affected other airlines operating from the airport.
According to the airline, operations resumed after aviation fuel became available.
However, Air Peace said its Abuja-Maiduguri flight was subsequently unable to operate as scheduled because of prevailing Visual Flight Rules conditions.
The airline explained that although an extension had initially been granted for the flight, the aircraft could not depart within the extended period as the operating conditions prevented the service from continuing beyond sunset.
Air Peace said passengers were kept informed about developments during the disruption and provided with refreshments.
Following the cancellation, the airline said hotel accommodation was arranged for affected passengers, while plans were made to operate the flight the following day.
The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused and reiterated its commitment to passenger safety and wellbeing.
“At Air Peace, the safety and wellbeing of our passengers remain paramount, and we will continue to prioritise these considerations in all our operations,” the airline said.
