The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to host the 2026 Children’s Arts and Culture Summit, scheduled to hold in Uyo from June 9 to June 11, 2026, as part of efforts to preserve cultural heritage and nurture future cultural ambassadors.
The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Anieti Udofia, disclosed this during a radio interview in Uyo, noting that the initiative aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s vision of positioning the state as a major tourism and cultural destination under the ARISE Agenda.
According to him, the summit is designed to introduce children to the values, traditions, language, dress culture and identity of Akwa Ibom from an early age, helping to build a generation that understands and promotes its heritage.

The event, themed “Integration: The Torch Bearer to Our Heritage,” will take place at the Akwa Ibom State Council for Arts and Culture Auditorium along Abak Road and will feature pupils and students from across the state’s 31 local government areas.
Dr Udofia said the programme builds on earlier cultural initiatives, including World Heritage Day celebrations, and is now being expanded specifically for children.
He stressed that cultural education must begin early, adding that “by teaching our children the importance of their heritage today, we are building the tourism ambassadors and cultural custodians of tomorrow.”
The commissioner also commended the state government’s investment in tourism infrastructure, including projects such as ARISE Park and Resort and the Oron Maritime Infrastructure Project, which he said would boost tourism, create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

He added that the ministry is working with education stakeholders to strengthen cultural learning in schools and promote indigenous values through both physical and digital platforms.
Participation in the summit is free for schools, with registration coordinated through the State Council for Arts and Culture.
The three-day event will include lectures, cultural displays, performances and competitions aimed at deepening cultural appreciation while encouraging creativity and leadership among children.
