A British serial killer known as the “Suffolk Strangler” has pleaded guilty to the murder of a teenager committed more than 25 years ago, UK authorities said on Monday.
Steve Wright, 67, who is already serving a whole life sentence for the murder of five women in 2006, admitted at London’s Old Bailey to the kidnapping and murder of 17 year old Victoria Hall in 1999. He also pleaded guilty to the attempted kidnapping of another woman a day before Hall’s death. Sentencing is scheduled for February 6
Hall went missing in the early hours after leaving a nightclub in the coastal town of Felixstowe in eastern England. Her body was discovered several days later in a rural area miles from where she was last seen. The case had remained unresolved for more than two decades.
Assistant Chief Constable Alice Scott of Suffolk Constabulary said Hall’s family had waited more than 26 years for justice and welcomed Wright’s admission of responsibility.
Wright was convicted in 2008 for the murder of five women in Ipswich, crimes that caused widespread fear in the town and surrounding areas. He received a whole life order, meaning he will never be released from prison.
Until Monday’s court appearance, Wright had consistently denied any involvement in the 1999 case. His guilty plea marks the first time he has formally admitted to any of the offences.
