The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared Monday, February 2, 2026, a sit-at-home across the South-East states of Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo. The group said the action is in solidarity with traders at the Onitsha Main Market.

The declaration comes a day after Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, ordered the closure of the Onitsha Main Market for one week, citing the continued observance of sit-at-home directives issued by IPOB since July 30, 2021.

The Governor described the prolonged sit-at-home as detrimental to the state’s economy and warned against further compliance with such orders.

Traders at the market, however, stated that the sit-at-home is being observed in support of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently standing trial on charges linked to separatist agitation.

The IPOB directive is expected to affect daily commercial activities across the region, reigniting debates over the economic and political impact of repeated sit-at-home orders in the South-East.
