President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi following the death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a road accident.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State, and Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, was confirmed dead after being rushed to a hospital.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the loss as tragic, offering sympathy to Wilfred, his family.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I share in the grief of his family, friends and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable career as an exceptional footballer. There is no doubt that Sunday’s modest beginnings and honesty greatly impacted those who looked up to him for inspiration,” the President said.
Tinubu prayed for divine comfort for the Ndidi family and for the eternal rest of the deceased.
Wilfred Ndidi’s club also confirmed the loss, saying, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident.”
