Former presidential aide, Mr. Bemigho Reno Omokri, has dismissed claims made against him by activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, describing them as legally untenable, misleading.

Omokri was reacting to statements attributed to Sowore and his lawyer, Mr. Abubakar Marshal, during court proceedings on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

In a public statement, Omokri acknowledged that he had made uncomplimentary remarks about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2022–2023 election period but stressed that those statements were made in good faith, based on information he later discovered to be false.

According to Omokri, he formally and publicly withdrew the remarks in 2023 after judicial pronouncements clarified the issues surrounding President Tinubu.

He noted that on May 29, 2023, the day Tinubu was sworn in as President, he released a statement recognizing him as the duly elected leader of Nigeria and urged Nigerians to support his administration.

He said his position was further reinforced on October 26, 2023, following the Supreme Court judgment that dismissed all petitions challenging Tinubu’s election.

Omokri explained that the apex court ruled that there were no criminal charges or convictions against the President.
