The House of Representatives has disowned the ad-hoc committee set up by its Minority Caucus to investigate alleged alterations in certain sections of recently enacted tax laws.

In a statement, House Spokesman Akin Rotimi clarified that the authority to constitute ad-hoc committees for parliamentary oversight lies exclusively with the Speaker and the House in plenary.

Rotimi emphasized that any investigation initiated solely by the Minority Caucus lacks formal backing and contravenes the parliamentary procedures outlined in the House’s Standing Orders.

The House assured that a bipartisan ad-hoc committee, already constituted before the recent recess to probe alleged modifications of the tax laws, would carry out a thorough investigation and submit its findings during plenary sessions.

The decision reinforces the principle that parliamentary oversight must follow established institutional protocols to ensure transparency, accountability, and legality.
