The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has renewed its call for the establishment of special courts to handle anti corruption cases, in order to reduce delays, speed up the prosecution of offenders.
Chairman of the commission, Ola Olukoyede, made the call after reviewing the agency’s performance in 2025, which recorded significant achievements in recoveries and convictions across the country.
He spoke at a reward and recognition programme, organized to honour personnels who distinguished themselves in the discharge of their duties, while encouraging others to intensify efforts in the fight against corruption.
Olukoyede stated that despite the progress made, prolonged court processes remain a major challenge, stressing that special courts dedicated to corruption cases would help ensure faster justice delivery and strengthen public confidence in the system.
He disclosed that recoveries made by the commission in the past year ran into billions of naira, millions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of pounds sterling and euros, while convictions recorded were in their thousands.
The EFCC chairman assured that the commission would continue to build on the gains achieved, with a strong commitment to professionalism and integrity, in order to sustain its position as the nation’s leading anti corruption agency.
He added that improved prosecution mechanisms would further enhance the impact of the commission’s operations and strengthen the overall anti corruption framework in Nigeria.
