POLICE WARN AGAINST PROTESTS OVER PENDING COURT CASE IN AKWA IBOM

Akwa Ibom State Police Command has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups threatening protests capable of disrupting public peace and order in the state over the arrest and prosecution of Princess God’sown Udoito.

The warning was contained in a statement issued on Saturday night, signed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare.

The CP said the matter is already before a court of competent jurisdiction and should be allowed to follow due legal process.

The police cautioned that any attempt to influence, intimidate or disrupt the judicial process through threats, protests or unlawful conduct would not be tolerated.

According to the statement, the Nigeria Police Force operates strictly within the confines of the law, noting that arrests and prosecutions are carried out only after due investigation and in line with existing legal provisions.

While reaffirming the constitutional rights of citizens to lawful expression, peaceful assembly, the Command stressed that it would not condone actions capable of breaching public peace, safety or morality.

The police specifically warned against threats or acts of nude protests, unlawful occupation of public or private facilities, disruption of government, economic or social activities, and any conduct capable of destabilizing the state.

The statement added that any individual or group found engaging in such acts would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Command advised aggrieved persons to seek redress through legal and civil means, allow the courts to determine the matter, rather than resorting to actions that could escalate tension in the state.

The police reassured residents of their commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding.
