The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has impounded 21 motorcycles for violating an existing order, restricting the operation of commercial motorcycles on major roads and highways in Abuja.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja. She said the motorcycles were seized by operatives of the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, during a coordinated enforcement operation across the territory.

According to Adeh, the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the command to combat crime, enhance public safety in the FCT.

She said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Miller Dantawaye, had directed strict enforcement of all security and traffic regulations aimed at protecting lives and property.

The CP warned that continued defiance of the restriction on commercial motorcycles along major routes would attract firm enforcement measures, adding that proactive security operations would be intensified across the territory.

Dantawaye also urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by complying with traffic and security directives, promptly reporting suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 or 07057337653.

The restriction on commercial motorcycles plying major roads and highways in the FCT dates back to 2006, when it was introduced by the then Minister, Nasir El-Rufai, to address growing security concerns.

The policy has been sustained by successive administrations to curb crime, improve public safety, with ongoing enforcement actions such as the recent impoundment of the 21 motorcycles.
