President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nkanu Nnamdi, son of renowned Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, offering heartfelt condolences to her, her husband, Dr. Ivara Esege, and the entire family.
In a condolence message issued on Thursday, January 8, 2026, and personally signed by the President, Tinubu described the loss as profoundly painful, noting that no grief is more devastating than the death of a child.
“As a parent myself, who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no grief is as devastating as losing a child,” President Tinubu said, empathizing with the family in their moment of sorrow.
He mourned the loss alongside the family, prayed for strength and comfort, particularly for Ms. Adichie, whom he described as a literary icon whose works have brought inspiration, joy and light to homes across the world.
“Ms. Adichie is a literary icon who has brought joy and light to many homes, globally, I pray she, her family find strength in the Almighty in this trying hour,” the President stated.
President Tinubu assured the family of his thoughts and prayers as they navigate the difficult period.
