The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, has turned himself in to the Police following allegations of multiple rape, other offences capable of breaching public peace, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed.
The case has now been handed over to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Sylvester Alabi, for further investigation.
The development followed Okafor’s failure to honour a police invitation on Monday after he was invited on Sunday by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, over the allegations.
Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, explained that the pastor initially indicated through his lawyer that he would report to the police, but failed.
“When he was invited, he got to us through his lawyer that he would be appearing on Monday. So, on Monday, we waited for him, we didn’t see him, and I directed that he should be arrested. Subsequently, he showed up yesterday (Tuesday),” Jimoh said.
The Police Commissioner disclosed that the case was transferred after it was discovered that a parallel investigation had already been opened at the Zone 2 headquarters.
“We later learned that the same matter had been opened at the Zone 2 headquarters with the AIG in charge of Zone 2, which I needed to verify, and I did same.
The matter has been under investigation there, for about three weeks now,” he explained.
According to Jimoh, the decision to hand over the case was based on the chain of command.
“The AIG occupies a higher office than mine as a commander and is my immediate supervisor. Since he is already handling the matter, we handed it back to the Zone,” he added.
Addressing complaints raised by alleged victims on social media, the CP said the Police would not ignore such reports when they pose a threat to public order.
“Social media has become a veritable space for people to lodge their complaints. We no longer wait for people to come formally before we act in public interest, because if we don’t, such conduct can lead to a breakdown of law and order,” he said.
The controversy surrounding the pastor began in mid-December 2025, when multiple allegations surfaced online.
Nollywood actress Doris Ogala accused Okafor of a prolonged sexual relationship, dating back to 2017, alleging unfulfilled promises of marriage, sharing of explicit materials, and circumstances that contributed to the collapse of her previous marriage.
Amid mounting public pressure, Okafor reportedly addressed his congregation on December 28, 2025, where he apologised for past “mistakes” and publicly sought forgiveness.
There are also reports that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) is considering disciplinary measures, while the pastor has reportedly stepped aside from his pastoral duties, pending the outcome of investigations.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that adequate security has been provided for the alleged victims, while investigations at SCID, Panti, and Zone 2 remain ongoing.
