The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed claims that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, describing such reports as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday, signed by Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, the Commission clarified that it has not published any timetable or schedule for the 2027 polls, contrary to circulating claims.
INEC stressed that it operates strictly under the law, noting that Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, requires the Commission to publish a Notice of Election no later than 360 days before a general election. The statement emphasized that any timetable issued outside this legal framework cannot originate from INEC.
The Commission assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 election will be released in due course, in compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2022. INEC also urged the public and media to disregard fake reports and rely only on the Commission’s verified platforms for accurate, authoritative updates.
