Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate says it disbursed 55 billion Naira to pensioners and next-of-kin of deceased retirees under the Defined Benefits Scheme in December 2025.
Head, Corporate Communications Unit of the Agency, Mr Olugbenga Ajayi, stated this today in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the statement, the amount comprised monthly pension payments and the settlement of outstanding pension arrears to eligible beneficiaries nationwide, including pensioners in the diaspora.
Of the total sum paid, 13 billion Naira was released as monthly pensions to beneficiaries across all pension departments, while a larger portion of N42.5 billion was deployed to clear accumulated arrears owed to retirees and next-of-kin.
The statement explained that the arrears payment covered outstanding obligations arising from the N32,000 pension increment, as well as the 10 per cent and 12 per cent pension increases, in addition to other accrued pension arrears, gratuities, and death benefits.
A departmental breakdown showed that the Police Pension Department received 5 point eight million Naira for five pensioners, while the Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension Department recorded N604 million paid to 8,606 pensioners.
The Civil Service Pension Department received the largest allocation, with N16 billion paid to 71,643 pensioners.
In addition, the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate said N289 million was paid as gratuity and death benefits to eligible next-of-kin of deceased pensioners.
It noted that the latest payments have cleared arrears arising from the N32,000 pension increase across all pension departments, except for one outstanding month each for pensioners under the Parastatals Pension Department and the Tertiary Education and Health Department.
