The Nigeria Police Force has suspended the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy nationwide following an interim court order restraining the action.
On December 15, 2025, the Police had announced the resumption of enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit, scheduled to commence on January 2, 2026, as part of measures to enhance public safety and internal security.
However, the Force was subsequently served with an interim order issued on December 17, 2025, in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025. The order restrains the Nigeria Police Force from enforcing the policy, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or until the order is set aside.
In compliance with the court directive, the Police have entered appearance in the matter, raised preliminary objections, filed an application seeking the vacation of the interim order. The court has adjourned the case to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
Consequently, enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy has been placed on hold across the country, pending the outcome of the case.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the rule of law while maintaining its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property.
He noted that the Police will continue to rely on lawful and intelligence-driven strategies to address security challenges, nationwide.
The public has been assured that further updates and clear directives will be communicated after the court delivers its decision, in the interest of public order and national security.
