KYIV – Russian forces have targeted a key heating plant in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, causing “significant damage” injuring one employee, according to state-owned energy company Naftogaz.
The facility provided heating to tens of thousands of homes, making the attack a major blow to civilian infrastructure.
The strike is part of a broader pattern of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and energy systems, aimed at undermining morale nearly four years into the full-scale invasion.
Kherson has faced increasing drone, missile, bomb attacks in recent months, leaving daily life perilous for residents.

In response, Ukrainian forces carried out a retaliatory strike on Russia’s Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region overnight, highlighting the ongoing cycle of attacks and counterattacks on strategic targets across the conflict zone.
The assault on Kherson underscores the growing vulnerability of essential services, humanitarian challenges faced by civilians in areas under heavy bombardment.
