The Zamfara State Police Command disclosed a successful foil of an attempt by suspected armed bandits to mount a road block on Tsafe-‘Yankuzo federal highway in the state.
This is to confirm the arrest of suspected bandit, Umar Alhaji Buhari a.k.a ‘Bingil’.
A statement signed by the Zamfara Police Command PPRO, DSP Yazid Abubakar, revealed that security operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command led by ASP Aliyu Bilyaminu Koko, while on routine patrol along the Tsafe–Yankuzo axis, received credible, timely intelligence that suspected armed bandits, carrying sophisticated weapons, had blocked the Tsafe–Yanwarin Daji road.
Upon swift response and arrival at the scene, the bandits opened fire on the police team, resulting in a fierce gun duel.
During the exchange of fire, some of the bandits fled into the bush with possible gunshot injuries, while others jumped into a nearby riverside, escaped!

However, one suspected bandit, Umar Alhaji Buhari, AKA “Bingil,” surrendered and was arrested.
The suspect is currently in police custody, will be subjected to thorough investigation, after which appropriate legal action will be taken.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, commended the good people of Zamfara State for providing timely and useful information that aided the prompt Police response.
He reassured the public of the Command’s commitment towards protecting lives and property across the state.
Members of the public are encouraged to continue to support the Police with credible and actionable intelligence to enhance security operations in the State”, the statement read in part.
In another development, the Command has foiled an attempted invasion of Maru metropolis by another armed group of bandits who planned a mass abduction in the early hours of Sunday, 28th December 2025.
The statement further revealed that, acting on timely intelligence, a joint security team comprising the Police, Military, Community Protection Guards, Vigilante Groups swiftly engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat with suspected gunshot injuries.
It added that no casualties or abductions were so far recorded, however, security has since been reinforced in Maru and surrounding areas.
